David Lee Cobb has been consulting and advising businesses as well as individuals in employee benefits and estate planning since 1990. David Lee Cobb is owner and president of Innovative Benefit Services, Inc. of Belmont. In 2005, he formed Innovative Insurance Advisors, LLC to help business owners and professionals in the areas of wealth accumulation and estate planning with an emphasis on “money efficiency.”
David is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of the companies, establishing leadership within the industry, and pursuing new market opportunities for growth. His initiative, passion, and loyalty have been hallmarks of the companies' success. He is dedicated to the companies' mission to achieve long-term profitable relationships through exceptional services and value-based solutions.
David began his career after receiving a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1990 from Western Michigan University. Immediately after graduation, David became a Licensed Life Insurance Agent after passing a regimen of exams through the State of Michigan Insurance Bureau. In order to maintain his insurance license, he must continue to earn 24 Continued Education (CE) credits through various offered financial courses every two years.
In 1990, David also started 300 additional designation credits in insurance products and passed the examination for Ethics for the Financial Service Professional to receive his Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF) designation from American College. Since obtaining the designation, David has served as a moderator and instructor for the courses. In 1993, through the State of Michigan Insurance Bureau, David became a Licensed Insurance Counselor (LIC).
From 1991 to 1996, David also completed 13 courses and successfully passed all 13 required exams to earn both the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designations through American College, including: Financial Planning—Process and Environment, Fundamentals of Insurance, Income Taxation, Planning for Retirement Needs, Investments, Fundamentals of Estate Planning, Individual Life Insurance, Life Insurance Law, Planning for Business Owners and Professionals, Group Benefits, Investments, Estate Planning Applications and Planning for Retirement Needs.
As a CLU and ChFC designee, David must keep his knowledge on tax and regulatory issues ethical and current in order to provide information about life and health insurance, education funding, estate and retirement planning, and financial goal establishment and financial plan implementation. He must take 30 Pace Credits every two years to sustain the designations. Less than 2% of licensed insurance professionals obtain these designations.
In 2004, the Corporation for LTCC, Inc. granted David with the designation Certified in Long Term Care (CLTC) after he completed an extensive multidisciplinary protection and pricing course and exam that focuses on the profession of long-term care planning and allows him to work closely with other professionals, including elder law attorneys. Like the CLU and ChFC designations, of all licensed insurance professionals, less than 1% earns the CLTC designation.
In February of 2005, David completed the National Association of Alternative Benefits Consultants’ (NAABC) Chartered Benefit Consultant (CBC) advanced designation course, attaining the highest level of training available in consumer-driven health plans today. This is also a designation granted to less than 1% of licensed insurance professionals.
